TRAXX -
A WELCOME NEW ADDITION.
by Aaron Ross
Those who put down Cleveland's Gay Scene for lacking "variety" surely have nothing to complain about these past few months. Now that the bitterest cold season has passed new places are blooming and booming and everyone's who's been closeted because of the weather are bursting out -so here's an up-to-date (as of this date) guide to what's around.
--
First Make Tracks to Traxx Cleveland's newest gay nite spot run by Hank Berger who has made quite a name for himself refurbishing and renewing and revitalizing old "has-been" watering holes. First he took a non-descript bar on West 117th St. and turned it into DejaVu an intimate rustic folk cellar with country, blue grass and folk all live performing most nights then a few streets away on Detroit and West 118th he gave new life to what once was "that crazy bar with a ship in the middle" by naming it Phantasy Nite Club having a grand N.Y. style opening with tremendous Press coverage and a most elegant crowd (no jeans) discoing to the latest. Now Hank has taken a seedy little bar on Payne and 18th street and turned it into one of the best cruising, dancing, gay places in town.
Traxx seems to combine the best of many tastes. For the disco dancers there's a great sound system at one end... for the drinkers and cruisers a long, long bar illuminated by a Tiffany-illuminated mural... and after you've met, danced and want a little privacy there's an intimate area at the other end -
with cozy enclosed booths, tables, soft lights and discreet friendly table service.
Traxx now makes St. Clair the street of Gay Bars. One can start at W. 9th at St. Clair (the Vaults, The Baths) and then (with little detours) to 620 and then to the Zanzibar on St. Clair and 17th, Traxx, Payne and 18th, and then on virtually every street, along St. Clair, the Depo near 19th, the JJs Disco and Gypsy's Restaurant near 24th, across the street The Leather Stallion near 22nd, and last but not least Twiggy's on St. Clair and 25th St. (Christopher Street in N.Y.'s Greenwich Village watch your reputation. We're getting there.)
I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who wrote in. To those who requested a list of gay bars in New York City I'm afraid they open and close too often for a list to be current so

I suggest you go, get a gay mag (available in most newsstands there and enjoy. And write me and High Gear about your discoveries. Elsewhere in this issue some other letters are printed. Let's have more of them. Write. This is your paper. USE
IT.
